Dermal Fillers Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal Fillers Frequently Asked Questions

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are substances that are injected just below the surface of the skin to fill in lines, wrinkles and scars giving a more youthful appearance. The most common use of dermal fillers is to treat smile lines around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), fine lines above the mouth, lines from the corners of the mouth to the jaw line (marionette lines), and frown lines between the eyes (glabellar lines). Dermal fillers can also be used to add fullness to the lips, cheeks and corners of the mouth (oral commissures).

Which dermal filler is the best one for me?

As you age, your skin reduces production of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid, which over time will result in facial wrinkles and folds. There are many dermal fillers on the market today to choose from, and in our office, we use Restylane® and Juvederm™. Both Restylane® and Juvederm™ are fillers made from non-animal based hyaluronic acid. During your cosmetic consultation, we will recommend which dermal filler will be best to achieve the look you desire.

What is the Restylane®?

Restylane® is an FDA approved dermal filler made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. It is the #1-selling and most-studied wrinkle filler in the world. It has been used in more than 10 million treatments in more than 65 countries worldwide. Results vary, but typically will last 6-9 months.

What is Juvederm™?

Juvederm™ is an FDA approved dermal filler made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Juvederm™ is an injectable gel with a smooth consistency. It is the only hyaluronic acid filler that is FDA-approved to last up to 1 year with 1 treatment.

Are dermal filler treatments painful?

Injections are delivered with a very small needle and discomfort is typically minimal. Some bruising and swelling may occur.
