Chemical Peel Frequently Asked Questions

Chemical Peels Frequently Asked Questions

What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are used to smooth and improve the texture of the skin by removing its damaged outer layer. There are many different types of chemical peels on the market today, and in our office we use trichloroacetic acid (TCA). TCA is considered a medium strength peel which is used to remove facial wrinkles and precancerous skin lesions as well as improve skin texture, treat acne, and remove liver or sun spots.

How is a chemical peel performed?

The solution is simply applied to cleansed skin, and is done in one short office visit. The process involves the upper level of the dermis to stimulate the formation of collagen and plump up the skin. TCA is used safely with minimal discomfort, but your skin will appear as though you have a severe sunburn for approximately one week.

How long do results last?

Results may vary, but TCA peels typically last 1 to 2 years.
